A Russian fighter jet shot down a US military drone and crashed it. An MQ-9 Reaper drone and two SU-27 bombers were all flying over the Black Sea, and the US military’s European command said Russian jets dropped fuel on the drone and flew dangerously in front of it, eventually killing one of them. It shot down the drone, forcing the United States to take the drone down.

Commander of the United States Air Force, James B. He also stated that the drone was carrying out normal operations and that this incident would not prevent US aircraft from operating in international airspace. Such drones have been operating over the Black Sea since before the start of the Russia-Ukraine war to monitor the situation in Ukraine.

John Kirby, a member of the US National Security Council, said it was not uncommon for Russian aircraft to intercept US aircraft in this area, and there had been other interceptions in the past few weeks, but this was particularly unsafe.

“This incident follows the dangerous actions of Russian pilots in international airspace, including over the Black Sea,” said a US European Command press release. “These aggressive actions by Russian Air Force personnel are dangerous and could lead to miscalculation and unintended development.”
